MILLENNIUM CD 'Orkney FOLK FESTIVAL':
millennium concert GAVIN FIRTH

To contribute to the year 2000 celebrations the Orkney Folk Festival commissioned three local Orkney artistes to produces three separate works celebrating the Millennium past in music and song. It was the Premiere performance of their work and to mark the success of the concert a live recording is to be released.
'Outstanding was the only way to describe the evening's entertainment displaying the importance of the islands of Orkney, the language, music and culture to the people of Orkney as only the folk festival can' THE ORCADIAN Gavin Firths work entitled 'A Thousand Years of Legend and Myth' was performed beautifully with contribution from a string quartet and his own band 'Tullimentan' 'Gavin will definitely be a name to watch in the future' THE ORCADIAN
Hazel and Jennifer Wrigley's piece highlighted the last thousand years by paying homage to St Magnus, the Norwegian Hardanger Fiddle, Princess Margaret of Denmark, The Hudson Bay Trading Company, Scottish Fiddle, Bagpipe music and Western Swing. 'Their music represented the history of the islands through strong compositions in their 'Orkney Medley' THE ORCADIAN
'Goand Da Boundae' ('good day good man') by Andy Cant was a big production bringing together Orkneys folk, funk, rock band 'Three Piece Sweet' and members of the 'Kirkwall City Pipe Band'. One highlight of the performance was a song focusing on 10 of the most important Orkney figures in history. 'a welcome mix of styles displaying great musical versatility' THE ORCADIAN
